When the love of Inara’s life finally appears, it’s as glorious as she imagined it would be. But a single mistake made long ago can have far-reaching consequences. Even though she wants to do the right thing, Inara’s options shrink more with each passing day. Can she rectify her one misstep, or will it drive her off the side of a cliff from which there is no return?

I am not sure if this book I love to hate or if I hate to love it. It kept me hooked but I wanted to shake Inara. I wanted to scream at Ammon. I wanted to hug Gideon and tell him to run away. And then I wanted to cry for characters who I didn’t much like in previous books. And then I wanted to tell Chancery that she needs to wake up and stop wishing away her position. Yikes, what a mess this family is. And yet, I can’t wait to read the next book. Certainly, it can’t be as bad as it sounds. Certainly there has to be some hope for our favorite characters. Certainly someone has to have a happy ever after when all we have seen so far is love triangles, tragedy, and heartbreak. As always, I love the narrator of this book series.
I don’t think this has any major spoilers but I guess I vaguely allude to events.I didn't like Inara. Her story was related distantly somehow. Like it was a summary or a report. What’s interesting is that it was set up like a framed story, but when we get to present-day again, they were asking questions they should have already known the answer to if they had heard the same story we did.Insta-love. No matter how many times they say it doesn't make sense, it didn’t help. So I didn't buy him as a love interest which makes a lot of the plot implausible. Reading the excerpt of the next book, there seems to have been more to it which might have helped this book. Maybe if she hadn't labeled the obsession love. And why has no one come up with Evian strength contraceptive?I skimmed a lot of the middle and started reading again toward the end (75-80% by e-reader). There was this "tragic" scene which I just had to laugh atUnlike her previous books, this was more romance and backstory - how does she and those around her fit in to the known plot. Not much suspense to speak of. Seeing as I couldn't finish book 5, book 7 is back to Chancery, and the excerpt didn't interest me (though I am curious about the cliffhanger in book 6, not enough to buy the next book), I'll say book 4 is my favorite of the series. It’s only one that didn't have me rolling my eyes while still being enjoyable, though I did have a slight frustration with it.
Nail biter! You won’t put this book down!
Inara’s story fills in the gaps of the previous two hundred years. I truly enjoyed this one. I cannot wait to see how it all comes together in “Destroyed” the final book.
When I started reading this book I expected to gain insight into the villain mastermind that was portrayed in the previous books. Sadly what I got was the story of an insecure, pathetic mumbling idiot. I could not believe the incredibly stupid decisions that she makes along her life. How she could keep loving the guy that betrayed her over and over again and the reasons she destroys her family for are nothing short of insane. It was no surprise at the end when we learn that she was manipulated all along.
