My mom should have killed me the day I was born.
Being a twin complicates the Evian line of succession, but Chancery Alamecha is fine letting Judica inherit the throne. After all, she’s the stronger sister—the merciless fighter, the ruthless politician, and the groomed heir. But something unexpected happens when Chancery tries on her mother’s staridium ring, forcing her into a role that she never wanted: the prophesied queen who will prevent the destruction of Earth.
Now I have to kill my sister.
Judica, enraged by this turn of events, vows to do anything to reclaim her rightful place as empress. Including challenging Chancery to a battle to the death. While Chancery is away training, she gets a taste of the human world, where she can do whatever she wants without genetic obligations. Now torn between a life she was born into and one that makes her happy, she must confront her treacherous sister—or cause the end of the world.

I truly loved reading about the sibling rivalry and how they attempted to get through it. I love that this book explains things
Bridget Baker does an amazing job of world building and taking readers to new places. Clearly she has done extensive research on a broad variety of topics that makes the storytelling all the more real and engaging. Can’t wait for the next one!
This is the first book I have read by Bridget B. Baker but it won't be the last. I NEED to read at least the next book in the series. Sci-fi is not my usual genre. I like historical fiction. The only thing I like better is variety. Displaced has so much, mixing a little earth history with people living centuries, current technology with sci-fi, the common with the mind bending. Almost every page turned is a plot twist. Characters are introduced, nothing built with growing complexities until by the end of this first in the series book the only person you really think you know is the heroine and she is so young she is still trying to figure out who she is herself. Strongly recommend to anyone who is looking for something a little more than the usual entertaining read.
I truly enjoyed this urban fantasy because it felt like all the high fantasy Romantasy books I love. It takes place in a modern time, but with the feels of fantasy-style royalty structured in courts around the world, driven by magic and powers. You get the emotions and uncertainty of young love, twin sisters battling for a throne, long life spans, and lots of unknowns with twists and turns.I’m excited to read book two and see what happens next! This is a 5⭐️ 🫑 (slightly steamy feeling, no spice read)
There was so much to this story other than the basic storyline. All the characters, all the details, all the twists and turns made it an adventure I didn't want to put down!
